Happy October + Giveaway!

 •Tell us a little bit about yourself. 

-I grew up on a small island off the coast of Washington State. I had a pretty magical childhood, mostly roaming the woods and rowing out in the water. As I reached high school and college age I began to travel around the world. I had a strong desire to leave my little island and see the world and would work hard in summers and save so I could travel in the winter. I contribute a lot of my creative inspiration to these trips and to my experiences in the natural world. I use all organic hemp & cotton canvas and on my way to having all 100% recycled & organic cotton fabrics. Since living and traveling away from the island, I have moved home and recently bought a piece of raw land with my sweety, so barnacle bags will forever be made from my studio on Lopez Island!  
•How did you get started making and selling your creations?

- I had just returned from a trip abroad to Nicaragua (2009) I came home with a strong desire to learn to sew. I had many dreams while traveling of making money on the stuff I make with my hands. I got a sewing machine from our recycling/exchange center and was persistent on teaching my self to sew and by June that year I was selling barnacle bags at our farmers market. And since then I have joined Etsy and put my items in a few local shops and hope to one day make a living off my creations! 
 •How did you decided on the name of your shop?

- I have always had a strong connection with the ocean. Being from an island, water was always a big part of my life. In order to leave you have to get on some type of boat. So it was clear that I wanted a name for my bags that had to do with the natural environment and kept thinking of water words then my boyfriend said one day "what about barnacle bags" and I loved it.
