Happy Halloween!!!

Just a little peek into what our Halloween looked like. What a wonderful night it was. The weather was lovely, the moon was perfect, our neighbors are so friendly, and Linus came home tonight with his treat bag almost full! He had a fantastic time going door to door with Jedi and Sadie. I told you this would be a spooky post, but it's more cute than anything. We're all so exhausted and full of chocolate now. Sweet dreams and Happy Halloween!!!

This Moment

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

Happy Birthday Mama!

Wishing the most wonderful momma in the world a very lovely birthday. That's a photo of us, taken about 14 years ago. She's my very best friend and I love her more than the universe. Happy Birthday Mama!!!
While Mike took her out for dinner, we had a little party at our house with these kooks...

Jedi was very proud of his bubble beard.

A sick little Schmoop...

Sorry it's been so very quiet in this space over the last week. We've been partying it up at our new home with friends and family. I hosted a baby shower for my aunt who will be traveling to China in a few weeks to pick up her sweet little Jill. I love throwing shin digs now that we have the space. I look forward to hosting many a dinner party, birthday, baby shower- hey, I'd even host a Tupperware party in the future!
Unfortunately all the parties we've been having isn't the only thing that has been keeping me away from Sappy Apple... Linus recently came down with a nasty virus and I've been spending the days(and nights) nursing him back to health. We've been cuddling up together, sipping tea and using my lap top to watch all sorts of fantastic movies- The Jungle Book, The Secret of Nimh, The Lion King, Fern Gully, Babies! It's very exciting stuff because before this, Linus had yet to watch a full length movie. He usually has too much playing, drawing and jumping off the couch to do.
Let's hope all that healthy energy returns soon enough. I hate seeing my sweet little schmoop in so much pain. It's heartbreaking...

Visiting Vancouver

We spent a few days in Vancouver this past week visiting my dad, his wife Hemsa and their two sweet boys(my brothers) Elias & Zane. We stayed with them in their unbelievably beautiful (and somewhat famous) home. It was Elias' 5th birthday last Saturday so we were happy to be around for the celebrations. We gave him a doctors kit and costume which he said was "THE BEST GIFT EVER!". Zane is 6 months older than Linus, and I must say, listening to those two chat with each other is pretty much the cutest thing ever. Linus had so much fun with his Uncles. It breaks my heart that we rarely see them- maybe 5 times a year. We hope to visit again very soon. Evan and I are always happy to visit Vancouver and our family there. I love Elias and Zane to death. They are so genuinely sweet and the things they say are hilarious. I miss them so much...
The photos below are what I captured on my Instagram. Most of the outdoor photos were taken in the backyard!

Right Now...

Right now I'm...

sipping an earl grey tea.

wishing Autumn would last forever.
listening to my October mix tape.
looking forward to celebrating my brother Elias' 5th birthday this weekend!
seeing sweet little Sadie look at books on the floor in front of me.
smelling cinnamon waffles.

hanging a few photos on the walls.
wondering when I'll ever finish putting together my craft room...

noticing the forgotten bowl of apple slices.
finishing off the last slice.

filling the front entry with pumpkin lanterns and scary silhouettes.
thinking I should decide what I want to be for Halloween.
feeling proud of my two year-old boy who now let's me know when he has to use the potty!
marveling at how well Sadie is able to wander from room to room and some how scout out the tiniest banana bread crumbs.
hoping to dig the potatoes from our garden before it freezes.
longing for another family bike ride.
loving these 'Right Now' posts. They bring the pleasure of this moment into full clarity for me. Allowing me to feel present, fulfilled and ready for whatever the day may bring.

Linus Bikes

I came across something very exciting this morning... A beautiful line of bicycles called Linus Bikes! My mom pointed one of these pretty bikes out to me while flipping through a magazine and of course, the name on it made me squeal with excitement! Linus is one of (if not the) most wonderful names in the world;) Plus, it's not often that we come across anything or anyone with the name, unless it happens to be a peanut... So, I looked 'Linus Bikes' up on the inter webs and was pleasantly surprised by all the lovely models, colors, baskets and bags! I'm already the proud owner of a Jorg & Olif  bicycle, gifted to me by Santa a few years ago. But me oh my, I might just have to buy one of these and give it to Linus in 10 years. They are all just too delightful!

Mix Tape- October!

If I had to pick one season to be my favorite it would be Autumn. The foliage, the cozy knit sweaters, the freckled ending of a busy and blissful Summer… I always try to savor every fleeting moment of Fall. For me, a long walk on the beach would pale in comparison to a tree-lined street. It’s the end of impulsiveness and the beginning of improvement, the calm and colorful realization that I didn’t really commit to many of my Summer goals. So many lingering lists and dusty boxes to unpack... But, why worry?  It’s a beautiful mess out there and not even the sidewalks seem to mind…
I'm off with my boys to soak it all in. Sip a chai tea latte, surround myself with the ones I love and eat a piece of pumpkin pie, of course.
Happy Thanksgiving and a little music mix from me to you!
p.s. you may notice i'm a little in love with Lanterns On The Lake right now... It's just the prettiest music.

Meet Jill. She likes looking at books, being read to, playing with toys, and listening to music. Her Chinese name is Shue Die Bo meaning 'Book' 'Butterfly' 'Wave'. My Aunt and Uncle will be formally adopting her and bringing her home this November. She will be 1 year old. The photo above is the very first picture we received of her and it was truly love at first sight. Isn't she adorable!? My Aunt and Uncle have been waiting 5 years to adopt a sweet little girl from China and it's finally all happening! As my Grandma said, "To say that we all are thrilled is a big understatement. This baby is already well loved and awaited with great eagerness by all."

It's true what they say, good things come to those who wait. (5 years is a little much, though. Sheesh!) I'm so happy for my family and incredibly excited to finally meet my new cousin!

This Morning...

...we had a few friends over to play, including baby Athena and baby Cove. The newest additions to the play group. Of course, I went a little camera-happy having two new chubs around to photograph...
I pretty much inhaled these bubs while they were here. I just can't get enough sweet baby cuddles and fuzzy peach head nuzzles. Thanks for hanging out with us this morning. We had such a wonderful time. I truly love filling my house with babies.

Happy October + Giveaway!

•Tell us a little bit about yourself.
-I grew up on a small island off the coast of Washington State. I had a pretty magical childhood, mostly roaming the woods and rowing out in the water. As I reached high school and college age I began to travel around the world. I had a strong desire to leave my little island and see the world and would work hard in summers and save so I could travel in the winter. I contribute a lot of my creative inspiration to these trips and to my experiences in the natural world. I use all organic hemp & cotton canvas and on my way to having all 100% recycled & organic cotton fabrics. Since living and traveling away from the island, I have moved home and recently bought a piece of raw land with my sweety, so barnacle bags will forever be made from my studio on Lopez Island!
•How did you get started making and selling your creations?
- I had just returned from a trip abroad to Nicaragua (2009) I came home with a strong desire to learn to sew. I had many dreams while traveling of making money on the stuff I make with my hands. I got a sewing machine from our recycling/exchange center and was persistent on teaching my self to sew and by June that year I was selling barnacle bags at our farmers market. And since then I have joined Etsy and put my items in a few local shops and hope to one day make a living off my creations!
•How did you decided on the name of your shop?
- I have always had a strong connection with the ocean. Being from an island, water was always a big part of my life. In order to leave you have to get on some type of boat. So it was clear that I wanted a name for my bags that had to do with the natural environment and kept thinking of water words then my boyfriend said one day "what about barnacle bags" and I loved it.
